Expansion into global markets, streamlining of supply chains and a growing desire from customers to source from the UK will all be key factors in helping a Cheslyn Hay manufacturer more than double its turnover in the next three years.
The rallying cry was made by PP Electrical Systems’ new Sales Director Tony Glasscoe, who is looking to build on significant recent growth by helping the firm reach £50m by 2015.
He believes the company’s ability to take on the full spectrum of electrical, electromechanical and electronic assemblies and control systems gives it a major competitive advantage over rivals who can’t command the same scale or flexibility.
The former engineering apprentice is keen to maximise the potential of PP Electrical’s new technical and sales office in Hamburg and increasing interest from the US and North American markets.
“I’m delighted to be joining the business at what is an extremely exciting period in its development,” explained Tony, who has previously held senior positions at Schneider and Weidmuller.
“We currently provide bespoke manufacturing solutions to no fewer than 12 of the World’s No 1 machinery manufacturers and this number is growing.”
He continued: “In today’s competitive environment, clients are looking for more of a partnership approach, an approach where we can get involved from the design stages right through to the assembly of the control systems/panels and, increasingly, in the mechanical and hydraulic build.
“It is this complete turnkey service I’ve been brought into push even further, both at home and in overseas markets.”
An engineer at heart, Tony started his manufacturing career as an apprentice before progressing into the drawing room and then into more advanced design.
His first exposure to sales was with a Midlands injection moulding company and subsequent roles have seen him look after global business development for Schneider and perform a turnaround of fortunes for Weidmuller.
He has also been responsible for introducing a sales excellence programme into Kwintet that completely changed the way the business operated.
“I’ve got significant global sales experience I can bring to the role and have worked with a lot of end users that PP Electrical could potentially supply to,” explained Tony.
“We’ve only scratched the surface on some markets and I believe there’s a lot more potential in medical, renewables and with machine builders who want to outsource more of the assembly.”
Located in a 40,000 sq ft facility in the heart of the West Midlands, PP Electrical Systems has added more than £10m to its turnover since the downturn, increasing the workforce by 100 to more than 230 staff.
Over £1m is invested each year in providing the workforce with a host of development opportunities and in the latest automation, including cable cutting, stripping, marking, termination and automatic crimp force monitoring.
The company is often the first critical link in a supply chain that will ultimately lead to it influencing the performance of a F1 car, how a potentially life saving medical examination is conducted and how energy from renewable sources is captured.
Tony Hague, Managing Director, concluded: “We are delighted to welcome Tony Glasscoe to the team and believe his industry knowledge and ability to source new opportunities will be vital if we are to achieve our ambition of doubling our turnover to £50m.”
