A unique manufacturing collaboration is looking to recruit new members as it looks to make the most of new opportunities in automotive, aerospace, medical and renewables.

The Midlands Assembly Network (MAN), which offers technical excellence in mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering processes, is encouraging companies in the region to become part of the group and take advantage of up to £10m of contracts each year.

Now in its sixth year, the collective is keen to hear from firms that specialise in design, sheet metal fabrication, surface finishing and micro engineering, but would also welcome expressions of interest from companies who think they may be able to add value to the MAN Group’s capability.

Gerry Dunne, Chairman, explained: “This is the first time we’ve recruited in two years, but feel the time is now right to add more manufacturers to the mix.

“Ideally, we’re looking to speak to businesses that can see the benefit of working together with other world class companies to share best practice, inter-trade and join forces to retain and secure new contracts.

“MAN works because there is no competition in the group and we are transparent in the way we operate. With over six years behind us, we’ve got a proven track record of being able to take work on that involves one, two, three, four and even all members at any one time.”

He continued: “In return, companies benefit from shared best practice, involvement in a well-established brand and website (www.man-group.co.uk), a dedicated PR resource and the ability to exhibit at key events for a fraction of the cost.”

MAN is currently made up of Advanced Chemical Etching, Alucast, Barkely Plastics, Brandauer, FW Cables, PP Electrical Systems, SMT Developments and Westley Engineering.

Together they employ over 550 people and turnover in excess of £60m, providing access to world class manufacturing in precision pressings, casting, etching, injection moulding, wiring looms, toolmaking, PCB development and electrical control systems and assemblies.

“Customers like our approach because we offer a single-source solution where they tap into manufacturing solutions that can save them money, improve quality, increase efficiency and ensures focus stays on core activities,” added Gerry.

“We also have extensive involvement in some groundbreaking projects. These range from the three-wheeled electric powered ‘Raptor’ to the top and bottom caps for the Olympic Torch.”
